Civic Volunteer killed in Darjeeling attack; Throwing grenades targeting the police station

A Civic Volunteer, a co-affiliate of police, was killed in a grenade attack by unidentified miscreants in West Bengal's Darjeeling. One homemade and one jawan of paramilitary forces were injured.

The incident happened on Saturday night. On this day, miscreants threw hand grenades targeting the Kalimpong police station and a Civic Volunteer named Rakesh Rout (31) was killed on the spot.

On the same day, Kalambang forest burns are burned. There was a blast near Darujilan's Badamtan. An office in Lebane was burnt to ashes in the fire.

Earlier on Friday night at around 12:30 pm, the super market near Darjeeling's Chawkbazar shook off a strong explosion. Big holes were made on the spot. Due to the horrific explosions, about 50 shops in the area are damaged.

Investigators estimates that giletine sticks, detonators, batteries were recovered from the site, trying to create a strong 'landmine'.

Following the incident, the case has been filed under the declaration of war against the UMA (illegal activity prevention law) and the state against Gorkha Janmukti Morcha president Bimal Gurung and his close associate Youth Morcha president Prakash Gurung and senior Subba.

A case was filed in Darjeeling Sadar Police Station against several of the non-loaneable sections of the accused against the three accused for trying to destroy the explosives, the government property and conspiracy against the state. CID investigation of the incident has started.

The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha has demanded a high level inquiry into the incident by rejecting the charges of having their hands in the blast.
